This guide has been prepared to show you the meaning of the different colours of the Alexa Light Ring, or Light Bar on the Echo Show devices. The guide covers all the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Spot, Echo Show and Echo Plus devices.
The light ring is Alexa’s way of notifying you of different information or settings.
Should you have any difficulties please don’t hesitate to get in touch at email@example.com.
We have also created a series of videos to help you, which you can find on our YouTube Channel.
Below are the Light Ring/Bar colours you may see and an explanation of what each one represents:
No lights #
The device is waiting for your commands, either through saying the wake word or pushing the action button.
Blue with spinning light blue lights #
The device is starting up after being powered on or restarted.
Blue with a light blue light pointing toward you #
The device is dealing with your request, after you have asked a question or given an instruction.
Flashing blue and light blue #
The device is responding to your request.
Solid red light #
The microphone is off or muted. This can be toggled on or off using the mute button on the top of the device.
Orange spinning light #
The device is trying to connect to your wireless network.
Spinning purple light #
The device has failed to connect to the wireless network. If a restart does not solve this have a look at Amazon’s troubleshooting pages for further things to try.
White light #
The volume is being adjusted on your device.
Spinning blue then turning to solid purple light #
You have just enabled Do Not Disturb on your device. This will go away again with no outward sign that Do Not Disturb has been enabled unless you interact with the device.
Brief purple light after interacting with the device #
Do Not Disturb is currently active.
Flashing yellow light #
The device has a message or notification waiting for you. Try saying “Alexa, what is my message” or “Alexa, what is my notification”.
Flashing green light #
There is an incoming call or drop-in. Try saying “Alexa, answer” or “Alexa, ignore”.
